Reactor & Access Tower
The client required a foundation that was capable of not only supporting two Reactor Towers (>100ft), but a multilevel access tower surrounding the process vessels for maintenance and monitoring. A combined foundation system consisting of driven steel pipe piles, reinforced concrete pilecap, and pedestals was chosen as an appropriate support system.
The two Reactor Towers are supported by octagonal pedestals along the midline of the foundation. Anchors located with a tolerance of only millimeters are embedded into the reinforced concrete pedestals to resist the significant base reactions the tower experiences under climatic loading conditions. The access tower columns are supported along the edges and corners of the pilecap by reinforced concrete piers. Anchors are also embedded into these piers with precise accuracy.
The result is a robust and durable foundation capable of supporting both the process towers and structural steel to the satisfaction of the client.
